FCBL Signs Contract Farming Agreement for Dried Red Chili in Chukha Dzongkhag

The Regional Office in Phuentsholing has officially signed a contract agreement with the Aggregators of Chukha Dzongkhag, in collaboration with the Regional Agricultural Marketing Division (RAMD), Phuentsholing, to introduce a contract farming model for dried red chili in Bhutan. This initiative marks a significant step toward strengthening coordination across the agricultural value chain and enhancing market linkages between farmers and buyers. Under this agreement, FCBL will procure dried chili directly from farmers and supply it to the market. The initiative is expected to boost chili production, increase farmer incomes, and improve overall market efficiency. By creating a more structured and reliable system, the program aims to benefit both producers and consumers. Chili remains a vital crop and an essential part of Bhutanese cuisine. However, challenges such as seasonal production fluctuations, inconsistent supply, and dependence on imports have often resulted in shortages and price volatility. Through this contract farming model, FCBL aims to address these challenges by ensuring stable market access for farmers, promoting consistent supply, and strengthening the domestic agricultural sector.
